Punch Powertrain inaugurates new factory in Malaysia, strengthening long term partnership with Proton 

On 19 August 2025, Punch Powertrain opened a new factory in Malaysia. This milestone highlights the company’s long-term collaboration with Proton and reinforces its commitment to supporting Malaysia’s growing automotive industry.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by YB Dato’ Seri Ir Haji Mohamad Nizar Bin Jamaluddin, Chairman of the Perak State Committee for Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transport; Proton Chief Executive Officer Dr. Li Chunrong and his management team; representatives of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and Invest Perak; along with Mr. Zhou Tianyu, President of Punch Powertrain Asia Pacific.

From blueprint to mass production in just 10 months, the new factory demonstrates Punch Powertrain’s agility and proven expertise in transmission R&D and production. With more than 50 years of experience, Punch Powertrain CVTs have been installed in over 4 million vehicles worldwide across more than 30 automotive brands, helping reduce fuel consumption and contributing to greener mobility.

This factory is a clear demonstration of our agility and long-term vision. It will serve not only as a key production hub for Malaysia but also as an export platform for other markets, leaving a strong footprint for the future.

The commissioning of the SPM facility sets a new starting point for strengthening Malaysia’s automotive ecosystem, enabling closer cooperation with Proton, supporting local talent, and contributing to sustainable industrial growth.
