Peugeot vehicle testing with novel hybrid e-DCT delivers outstanding results

The Peugeot 3008 and 5008 SUV and half-sedan, half-SUV-coupé, the Peugeot 408 have performed exceptionally during testing at Aandalusia, Spain with mild hybrid eDCT/DT2 transmissions supplied by Punch Powertrain & Stellantis JV. At Peugeot, the 3008 and 5008 SUVs are the first to benefit from this novel 48-volt Hybrid technology which will gradually be rolled out to other Peugeot models and several of the Stellantis group’s brands.

Peugeot vehicle testing with novel hybrid eDCT delivers outstanding results

In June 2023, nearly 500 international automotive journalists were invited for this testing session and they got behind the wheel of Peugeot vehicles fitted with hybrid eDCT. The result were very encouraging as they showcased that the innovative CO2 emissions reducing and fuel efficient 48V hybrid DT2 transmission advantageously benefits from the electric block to sprinkle torque permanently during re-acceleration at low speeds or gear changes. Result, an extremely good driveability and smooth shifting. The same has been already published globally through several review articles and videos.

The DT2 mild hybrid duel-clutch transmission is one of the most significant technologies to be realized by Punch Powertrain and an important step forward in green technology deployable at scale.

The testing process typically involves assessing various aspects such as powertrain calibration, energy management, drivability, and overall system efficiency with focus on fine-tuning the control algorithms that govern the interaction between the internal combustion engine, the electric motor, and the battery pack. This ensures smooth transitions between different driving modes and maximizes the benefits of the mild hybrid system in terms of fuel economy and emissions reduction.
