To increase the production of the future generation of the electrified transmission (eDCT) by contributing the factory Mirafiori, Italy, to the agreement, complementing the already operating site in Metz, France.
eDCT will equip Stellantis hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles and carmakers globally.
The new facility is expected to start production second half of 2024.
A new step to answer all customers’ demands through electrified models (both hybrid and battery electric vehicles) and to always provide freedom of mobility.
Sint-Truiden, September 22, 2022: To meet the growing demand for electrified vehicles and the ambitious targets presented in the Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan, Stellantis and Punch Powertrain have signed an agreement to reinforce their existing joint venture. The scope of their strategic partnership in the field of electrification will be broadened by contributing an additional site in Mirafiori Complex in Italy, to the existing collaboration.
The 50/50 joint venture between Stellantis and Punch Powertrain, called ‘Punch Powertrain PSA e-Transmissions Assembly’ manufactures and supplies breakthrough electrified dual clutch transmission (eDCT/DT2) for Stellantis’ next generation of hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, helping Stellantis further electrify its brand portfolio with clean, safe and affordable solutions.
“Our commitment is to create a new global value chain with trusted partners to support our energy transition and our Dare Forward 2030 targets.” said Carlos Tavares, Stellantis CEO. “Extending our existing collaboration in France with Punch Powertrain to produce electrified dual-clutch transmissions in Italy as part of the e-Transmissions Assembly team is another step forward to helping us achieve our aggressive decarbonization plans across our portfolio.”
In recent years Punch Powertrain has been undertaking a major transformation from development and production of conventional transmissions towards electrified and fully electric drives, anticipating the acceleration of electrification in the passenger car industry. To this end the company continues with its long-term investment program towards enriching capabilities and state-of-the-art development and manufacturing assets.
“We are delighted to extend our partnership with global automotive leader Stellantis, demonstrating continued commitment to our teams’ innovative power and recognition of our industrial leadership position as hybrid transmission supplier,” stated Jorge Solis, Chief Executive Officer of Punch Powertrain. “We are proud to support Stellantis in reaching their ambitious electrification objectives, while broadening the reach of our innovative technology towards South-Europe and serving the customers in their local market. Through this collaboration we are humbled and excited to see our DT2 technology becoming the leading hybrid dual clutch transmission technology worldwide in the coming years/ by 2025.”
In addition to the facility in Metz, France, the site in the Mirafiori Complex (Turin, Italy) has been identified in the Southern Europe environment to support Stellantis’ aggressive electrification roadmap, optimizing all geographic and logistical needs. The new e-Transmissions Assembly site is expected to start production in the second half of 2024.
“We are excited to expand our operations in Europe,” said Michel Becker, CEO of Punch Powertrain PSA e-transmissions Assembly. “After months of preparations in the first assembly location in Metz, this is a very encouraging recognition of the exemplary work of our teams. We are looking forward for our company and all its team members to realize their passion for sustainability and to increase the supply of our market leading hybrid technology.”
